Mitsubishi Repair: 92 Laser 2.0, fuse box, fog lights

Question
My wife's 92 Laser's headlight chime not longer works. I've been told the chime is part of the ECM. Is this true that I would have to replace the ECM to get the headlight chime to function properly? Sure seems like overkill to me.

Answer
Bob,
Believe it or not, you probably never heard the headlight warning buzzer in that car.  This was because the engineers did not put in a reminder buzzer for the headlights in the Lasers.  Though if they were to, it definitely would not be tied directly into the ECM.  The key reminder and seat belt reminder buzzers are each controlled by the #1 and #11 fuses in your fuse box under your dash on the drivers side.

The engineers figured that instead of a reminder chime, they would just make the headlights turn off automatically once the ignition is turned off.  But they failed to realize that even though the headlights turned off, the parking lights remain on.  I have a 90 Eclipse (basically the same exact car as the Laser) and I've run down my battery a few times because the parking lights (and fog lights if so equipped) remainded on and I didn't notice.  It's an engineering flaw in the circuitry, but it's just something you'll have to pay attention to.
Good luck!
