Mitsubishi Repair: 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, angle sensors, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
My Son has just replaced a timing belt on this car in our automotive shop and now the car will not start.  Any suggestions?  Thank you

Answer
Linda,
If your son has the non-turbo Spyder, that actually has a Chrylser engine in it, and I'm not to familiar with it.  But usually if the old belt was removed and the #1 piston was not set to TDC, and the hydraulic tensioner was not properly installed, the timing can be thrown off immediately upon starting the engine and the ECU will prevent the engine from starting.  You can also check the ignition and MPI fusible links to be sure they haven't blown.  The cam and crank angle sensors can be tested to be sure it is functioning properly.  If the balance belt was replaced along with the timing belt, it should have been set in phase, otherwise that can cause the engine not run or start up properly.

Along with the fusible links I mentioned, it's a good idea to inspect all the fuses.  Sometime the alternator fuse can blow or the ground cable on the alternator can come loose when working on the engine.
Good luck!
