Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Galant - HORN, high tone, car horn

Question
Our horn goes off for no reason (i.e. we'll be sitting in our house, and all of a sudden we'll hear the car horn go off).  It happened shortly after we purchased the vehicle.  We bought it to the dealer, but they could not find anything wrong.  All was fine for a few years, but the problem has recently occured again.  Only way to stop it was to disconnect it.  Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Answer
Linda,
This sounds like a wiring short in your horn circuit.  The short is most likely on the horn switch itself (in the steering column) or on the actual horns (most cars have a high tone and low tone horn).  If this was happening when you first got the car, I would suspect the horn switch in the steering column is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.  You should be able to remove the Horn relay that is located under your hood in the fuse/relay box until you can take the car to a mechanic to have it looked at.  If you live in a state that requires annual inspections, you'd fail if your horn does not work properly, so you'll need to have this taken care of before your inspection is due.
Good luck!
