Mitsubishi Repair: Fuel Pump/Relay, mitsubishi 3000 gt, fuel pump relay

Question
On a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000 GT SL with 3 liter multiport fuel injection the car was running fine and one day it failed to start. It has spark but no fuel at the injector rail when the key is turned on to the run position with the fuel line disconnected from the rail. Is there a fuel pump relay on this car?  There is no sound from the fuel tank when the key is turned to the run position either (can't hear the pump running). Any information you can provide about the activation of the fuel system will be appreciated.

Answer
Dave,
There may be a fuel pump relay on the car, but it may be tied into another relay, so I'm not exactly sure which one it would be.  But you can connect a 12 volt source (i.e. your battery) directly to your fuel pump terminals, and see if the pump switches on.  If you do not hear the pump come on with a direct 12 volt connection, then that means your fuel pump is dead.  You'll need to replace it.

You should also check all your fuses and fusible links to see if any are blown.  Look for a fuse labeled IGNITION or MPI, which control fuel supply to the engine.

If everything seems to check out, then you should check your car's computer.  Read this article further information:

If your ECU looks damaged, it would need to be replaced.
Good luck!
