Mitsubishi Repair: Spark plugs, shade tree mechanic, mitsubishi galant

Question
What is the easiest way to remove all six spark plugs from a Mitsubishi Galant V-6, 1999, automatic tranny, 3.0 L? Is it too involved for a shade tree mechanic? Please advise.

Answer
Mark,
Yes, you should be able to handle replacing the spark plugs yourself.  Though I believe for the V6 model, you need to remove the intake manifold plenum in order to reach the back 3 plugs.  It's timeconsuming but not difficult. You should carefully label all hoses and keep track of all the bolts that you'll need to remove.  Also be careful not to damage the intake gasket.  Being that the intake is aluminum, you need be careful when you tighten the bolts.  Overtightening bolts on aluminum parts can cause them to crack.

But since your need to remove the throttle body and intake manifold, it may also be a good time to clean those items.  Pick yourself up a couple cans of carb cleaner and clean those items inside and out when they are off the car.  You may notice a horsepower increase after those items are cleaned if they are very dirty.
Good luck!
