Mitsubishi Repair: 96 Eclipse Transmission Problems, transmission control unit, remote car starter

Question
I have a 96 2.0 eclipse. It has an automatic transmission. My problem is when you start driving it and start to slow down it shifts down really hard and when you pick up speed again it won't shift out of low gear. I then have to pull over and shut the car off and then it shifts fine until I slow down again. Every since it messed up my overdrive doesnt work' (the light wont even come on or off). Also my SRS light stays on. I have put three transmissions in it and it still does the smae thing. Is there anyway you can help me. I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS...

Answer
Gary,
You should also have the TCU (transmission control unit) inspected for any damage.  If this was not replaced during your transmission replacements, it may be the overall problem.  Bad eletrical harnesses can also cause this problem, be sure to check all connect points for proper connectivity.

The SRS light will come on when a problem is detected in your airbag system.  The most common cause is a faulty SRS sensor or eletrical short in the system.  If you've installed aftermarket eletrical items like stereo amps or a remote car starter, if those devices are attached to the same ground as the SRS system, it can cause the SRS light to come on.
Good luck!
