Mitsubishi Repair: Check Engine Light, cold air intake, 3rd generation eclipse

Question
Have a 2005 Eclipse GS 2.4L Manual trans. I installed an aftermarket cold air intake (this was done with the battery diconected) and when i drove it the engine died a few times when i pushed in the clutch.  Then a couple days later i started getting the check engine light.  By the time i got the light it had stopped dying.  Any ideas?  Also is there a way to get trouble codes without the scanner?

Answer
Hiatt,
I know there was a way to read the trouble codes on your own with the 2nd generation Eclipses, but I do not of the procedure (or if there is a procedure) to read the codes yourself on a 3rd generation Eclipse like yours.  But if you have an AutoZone in your area, you can bring your car to them and they can hook up a scanner to your car and read your codes for free.

Many times when installing a cold air intake, pins on the eletrical harness can get bent, and sometimes the eletrical harness itself can come loose.  You can also find very good online references from other owners of cars like yours here:

And if you continue to have problems, try re-installing the stock air box again and see if the problem is still present.
Good luck!
