Mitsubishi Repair: 1990 fwd 2.0 eclipse auto transmission, leaky seals, eclipse auto

Question
Bought the car with a bad transmission, got a low milage JDM transmission and had it installed. Ran fine for about 500 miles then would not go in to any gear. Tried to go into a forward gear between park and reverse but nothing else. Have another transmission coming. Could it have been installed incorrectly?

Answer
Joe,
If the tranny performed fine for 500 miles, I'd guess it was installed correctly.  But the transmission may have a malfunctioning valve body, improper linkage adjustment, damamged pressure control solenoid valve, or even simply low on fluid.  When you pull your tranny to replace it with the one coming, inspect for any leaky seals or loose hose connections.  I strongly recommend you have a factory service manual on hand for the installation of your new tranny unless you have very good knowledge of the installation process or you are having a knowledgable mechanic installing it for you.
Good luck!
