Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubishi montero(1999) 2w-4w warning light, mitsubishi montero, 4wd vehicles

Question
I have just had an engine installation co. put in a rebuilt engine. Upon completing the job the co. informed me that the 2w-4w warning lights flash while in 2w high. I am reasonably knowledgable in the area of auto mechanics and electronics. I know little or nothing about automatics and 4wd vehicles. The warning lights were not flashing prior to the install. What should I look for? I don't want to take possession(pay) of the vehicle if there is something that they might have done incorrectly or overlooked. I am not trying to place blame but merely gather info. Your help would be appreciated.

Answer
Aaron,
There may be a loose engine harness connection.  The flashing typically occurs when the driver tries to engage the 4WD option, but the speed and/or gearshift is not in the correct position.  So a loose connection or faulty sensor could be found at the transmission or even at the transaxle control switch itself.

It does sound like something was connected improperly when the rebuilt engine was installed, and you are right not to pay for it yet.  Take the truck back and have them recheck all the connections.
Good luck!
