Mitsubishi Repair: Early model 88 Starion Esi-R, boost gauge, hose connections

Question
Replaced an the engine with a 87 starion engine using the ecu from the 88. My problem is the turbo is not giving me any boost at all. I have exausted all my resources to include pressure testing the intercooler and having various tuner friends helping me to troubleshoot. I don't want to take it to the shop because it would probably cost a lot considering the make and model of the car. This is the only thing stopping from driving it. It cranks and runs good until I give it gas. Any help or resources is appreciated.

Answer
Ben,
I'm not as familiar with the Starions as the Eclipse, but I know that with the Eclipses, if an engine swap is performed and a different ECU is used, it can cause problems.  If the ECU detects improper readings from the MAS, it can reduce boost and retard timing; which will cause poor acceleration and lack of boost.

Also, I'm not sure of the extend you inspected the turbo itself, but you should be sure the turbine is spinning freely and that it does not wobble at all.  If there are any broken fins on the spooler, or if it wobbles, you will not gain boost.  Double check the wastegate and all hose connections to it.  Those are not as easy to pressure test.  If you plan on performing mods on air intake for your car, I would recommend an aftermarket boost gauge.  That will also help give you an idea of boost problems.
Good luck!
