Mitsubishi Repair: wont start, fuel pressure regulator, crankshaft sensor

Question
my son has 1995 GST that we got four years ago. he was driving to work turned the corner and lost power. first thing I checked for spark, yes it did. also checked fuel pressure and it was weak,I replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator.still wont start and run.so I checked timing belt and found that timing belt and timing belt B are fine ,but found a part of a  old belt inside with others and lodged in the crankshaft and silent shaft sprocket.and some of an old  belt lodged in crankshaft sensor, I know its hard to believe that someone left a part in timing belt cover ?.  the harmonic balancer was bad also.has of right now Im waiting for crankshaft sensor and harmonic balancer.I have about $500 in it right now with my time working on it and trying to understand it could  it be an (ECM)if all doesnt work. HELP!!

Answer
Mike,
There's a good chance that the old piece of timing belt could have caused the installed timing belt to slipped a couple teeth on the camshafts.  Once that happens, your cam angle sensor well immediately send a signal to your ECM to force the engine to shut down to prevent your piston heads from smashing into your valves.  If you want to be sure, you can perform a compression test to see if your compression is still within spec.  If you have low compression in any one of your cylinders, that could indicate one or more bent valves.

Once you replace your sensor and balancer, be sure to check the timing and set it properly.  Hopefully that will fix your problem.
Good luck!
