Dave,
Check your multiport fuel injector fuse that is located near your positive battery terminal.  Also check the electrical connector on the fuel pump itself.  The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank.  You should be able to see your fuel pump connector by removing the floor coverings from your hatchback trunk.  The fuse, relay and eletrical connector on the pump are the main direct eletrical connections for your fuel system.  It's possible your fuel pump could have failed as well.

I would also recommend you check your car's computer.  Read this article for further information:

If your ECU is malfunctioning, it can prevent your fuel pump from operating.  Though if you tried start up your fuel pump by directly connecting it to the battery, and you didn't hear it kick on, than your problem could very well be a bad fuel pump.  Check those items and you should find your problem.
Good luck!          the mpi fuse is good i checked it ,the fuel pump is less than 2 years old i have no power to the pump as i checked, it seems that there may be a broken wire in the harness,i tried to check the computer but it did not want to work, key on key off check did nothing reading the article it seems it may be the ecu as i did have a 10 amp fuse blown and i do hear a clicking i beleive to be the fuel pump relay
is this a sure point to the computer? if i get one from the junkyard should i open it to see if the capacitors are fried? before buying? thanks

Answer
Dave,
There is a very good chance this is your ECU that is the problem.  You'll want to remove it from under the dashboard and open it up to be sure.  With the capacitors in your ECU, it's not a question of IF they will go bad, but WHEN.  Your capacitors will go bad eventually.  Hot weather will increase the rate of failure on your ECU as well.

If you can find a 1990 1.8L Laser, Talon, or Eclipse in a junkyard, you should definitely inspect it before you purchase it.  Some salvage yards will let you test out eletrical parts for a couple days, and will let you return it.  If the capacitors in an ECU you find are the original ones, you should have them replaced immediately.  Also, you MUST use an ECU from a 1990, and no other year.  You can use one from any 1990 1.8L Laser, Talon or Eclipse.  But no other year or engine size will work.
Good luck!
