Mitsubishi Repair: 1997 Mitsubishi Galat, autozone auto parts store, autozone auto parts

Question
I have a 1997 Mits. Galant ES auto transmission that recently someone borrowed and wrecked the right side and drove over a "parking" sign. Since this my check engine light has come on 3 times, I put a "gas treatment" in, the c.e.l. went off after a bit, came on again and put in "fuel injection treatment" and it went off again. Car is "jerking" when accelerating and shakes at speed over 40 mpr also rpms jump around alot when trying to accellerate along with car jerking.
What could be the problem(s)?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Answer
Shawna,
If you have an AutoZone auto parts store in your area, they can read your Check Engine Light codes for free.  Just go in and tell them your c.e.l. is on, and they will read the codes and tell you what's wrong.

My guess is that your problem is either emissions or ignition related.  If one or more of your spark plugs are not firing, that will cause your c.e.l. to come on and cause the poor acceleration and shaking you're feeling.

The same can happen if one of your emissions components is not functioning properly.  Adding the fuel treat may have temporarily helped with the emissions and/or ignition problem, but your problem will always return if the actual problem is not fixed.  Have the c.e.l. codes read from your car (hopefully at a local AutoZone) and that should pinpoint where your problem is coming from.
Good luck!
