Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 mitsubishi galant, mitsubishi galant, loose power

Question
I have noticed small instances in the past where my car began to idle roughly or loose power. I would turn the AC off and it would be fine.  The same thing happened last night, but it persist.  It occurred right when I got on the interstate.  The rpm's dropped to zero.  The speed suffered and would slowly use speed and acceleration power.  I stopped.  While idling the car would almost shut off but didn't.  I began to drive again.  The car would accelerate slow but gain more speed than before.  Then, it would slowly use speed and acceleration power again .  I had to drive an hour so I took it easy but this process repeated a few times.  Now, the car shakes while idling and tries to stall but won't.  I just got the tires balanced, an oil change, and the AC mode trasmitter replaced but I didn't think those are causing this problem.  Any ideas?

Answer
Tony,
You just may need a good old fashion tune-up.  If you have not changed your spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor within the past two years, its time to do it again.  Have all those items replaced, along with your air filter, fuel filter and PCV valve.

Also have your timing checked out.  It's possible your timing is off due to a worn timing belt.  If your belts have never been changed, this may also be a good time to replace them as well.
Good luck!
