Mitsubishi Repair: Check Engine Light 2001 Mitsu Diamante, mitsubishi dealership, diagnostic port

Our Check Engine light is on for our 2001 MItsu Diamate, 3.5 liter engine.  Auto Zone says there is no port on a diamante to plug into to get the code... seems unlikely, doesn't it? Can you tell me where it is? Thanks

The Auto Zone folks are incorrect.  Every car has a diagnostic port.   I'm not too familiar with your year of Diamante, but there are 3 common places where the engineers put the diagnostic ports:
- Under the steering column (probably the only place the looked)
- Behind the ashtray (the ashtray needs to be pulled out)
- In or around the glove box

You can check those areas yourself first to see if you can see it.  It's a pretty big plug.  My wife's Honda has it's diagnotic plug behnd the ashtray.  When I first brought her car to Auto Zone for them to scan it, they couldn't find the plug either.  I had to tell them where it was.  

If you can't find it yourself, you may have luck calling or visiting the service department at your local Mitsubishi dealership.  Just ask them where the diagnostic port for the ECU is.  Hopefully they will just tell you without any fuss.
