Mitsubishi Repair: 1995 Mitsubishi Galant ES automatic problem, mitsubishi galant, torque converter

Question
The flywheel was fixed after I got the starter replaced.  Someone told me it may be because my car is out of gas, because the meter isn't working right.  And trying to start a car with no gas can wear down the battery is what I was told.  Any additional answers would be greatly appreciated.  ~Trina~-------------------------

Hi, the other day when I was at a red light as the light turned green I lifted of the brake but the car didn't take off, and when I pressed on the gas it wouldn't take off, it sounded like I was pressing on the gas as if I was in park.  Then I turned the car off and tried to restart it but it wouldn't.  I just got a new starter and flywheel put on.  So what could the problem be?  Also the lights get deamer and deamer until they went completely out, I had to get my car towed home.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Katrina,
Something may have come loose which connects your engine to your transmission.  Your starter is connected to your flywheel.  When you first start your car, it spins the flywheel, which makes the engine turn over enough to get it to start.  The flywheel is also connected to the torque converter.  The torque converter is what is responsible for sending power to the transmission.

If the flywheel is not connected to the starter correctly, your car will not start.  If the torque converter is not turning properly, your transmission will not move your car (it will appear to be in neutral or park).

As far as the lights getting dimmer, I can only guess there is an electrical short or perhaps your alternator is on it's last leg.  I would recommend bringing your car back to shop that installed your new starter/flywheel and have them check it again.  They may have accidently offset the flywheel upon installing the new starter.
Good luck!

Answer
Katrina,
Put a gallon of gas in a gas can and pour it into your gas tank.  Your car should start and run fine even if there was only a gallon of gas in it.  Continuously trying to start the car without gas will drain your battery.  If your battery is drained, either get it jump-started, or bring your battery to an auto parts stores, and most will charge your battery for free.
Good luck!
