Mitsubishi Repair: Idle/Transmission/brakes/rotors, mitsubishi galant, throwout bearing

Question
Hello Tim,

1996 - Mitsubishi Galant Spyder

I have had problems with my rotors/brakes since purchase.  Every three months change rotors or brakes needs to be replaced. Then took my car to get oil change find out need I have a water pump leakage - All belts including the timing belt and water pump was replaced.  After thatcar started acting up - the idle was rough, put car in reverse the car jumped.  Stop in traffic car shuts off.  Took to shop they put it on the machine nothing is wrong with my car.  Well, I knew something was wrong but no one could answer.  My transmission kept jumping out of gear and later my car would not accelerate.  Got the car towed and find out I needed the transmission replaced well had to buy a a used transmission for $1995.00 and the car is still feels like the gear is stuck in 3rd.  It feels like the car is straining after 55mph.

Can you please tell me what is actually wrong with this car?  I am getting pretty frustrate and these mechanics are taking much of my money and  my car feels and sounds like crap!  Also if I get my car aligned why is it still wobble?

So many questions...HELP!!

Answer
Hi Vicky,

Sorry to hear of your problems and one thing after another,First off on your brake issue..Sounds like your brake  calibers are the main problem if your car is eating up rotors and brakepads have that checked out may need adjusting first before buying a fullset they are expensive.  For you had to pay a price like that for a used transmission i hate to tell you this but you been had and was taken advantage of,Most transmissions can be rebuilt between $500-1200 .If you are having trouble with this transmission then something is wrong  if it's a manual(stick shift)and it jumps out of gear then a throwout bearing is wornout and need replacing always recommend replacing those everytime you replace the clutch.  If you already got the car fixed for the alignment and it is still doing it i would have the person who worked on it look at your tires to see if they need replacing by looking for belt separation, out of round or if you have wornout balljoints but a real alignment guy will notice this.  Hope this helps and goodluck on your car, contact me anytime if you need more help
