Mitsubishi Repair: Montero Sport, cv axle, montero sport

I have a 2000 Montero Sport.  I had the oil changed today and the service man said my CV Axle  on the right front tire was broken and needed to be replaced asap and not to use my 4-wheel drive unitl it is.  How much does that cost?

Replacing a CV axle is quite a labor intensive job.  The axle assembly itself may cost around $450-$550, and the labor may cost $150-$250 depending on your local mechanics hourly rate.    Since those are some pretty hefty repair costs, I'd recommend calling up a few other mechanics in your area and ask them for a quote.  You may be able to save yourself a few hundred dollars if you can find a mechanic that will give you a better deal in labor and discounted parts.
