Mitsubishi Repair: ALTENATOR BELT REPLACEMENT, alternator belt, many cars

Question
I AM NOT ABLE TO PUT THE ALTENATOR BELT ON, I AM NOT SURE HOW TO RELEASE THE TENSION. COULD YOU HELP ME WITH THIS

Answer
Tracy,
On most alternators. there is a bolt that you need to loosen in order to ease the tension on the belt for removal.  The bolt is typically very accessible, and once loosened, you slide the alternator on groove the bolt goes through.  Once the alternator slides enough, the belt can be removed.  On many cars, there may be a power steering and/or air conditioner belt that may need to be removed as well before the alternator will come off.  Those belts usually come off in the same manor as the alternator belt.
Good luck!
