Mitsubishi Repair: Automatic antenna, mitsubishi eclipse, auto parts stores

Question
I have a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GST Convert.
and I am having a problem with the automatic antenna.  It is going up very slowly and with heitation and sometimes not at all.  However, you can hear the motor running.   Do yo think this a connection problem, a motor problem or do I just need to replace the antenna?  Can I replace the antenna with a standard instead of automatic?

Thanks,
Stacey

Answer
Stacey,
There may be a worn gear in your antenna motor that is slipping, and causing the antenna to move very slowly.  Also, sometimes the telescoping joints can pick up debris and cause the antenna to move slowly.  You can take a small brush (like an old toothbrush) and clean the joints with some soap and warm water.  Also, you can spray some silicon lubricant on the joints and raise the antenna up and down to work it in.

If you want to replace the antenna, there are standard antennas that are not motorized that you can install.  Most auto parts stores sell these antennas.
Good luck!
