Mitsubishi Repair: Will not start, auto parts stores, idle air controller

Question
Have a 1991 eagle talon 2.0 non turbo,it set up a couple of months(body rerairs),it will start to fire up then stop, seems to be flooding out , and you can hear a continual clicking noise coming from around the intake or throtle body. Any idea what could be wrong?

Answer
Rick,
Your problem could be your Idle Speed Control motor (ISC) or sometimes referred to as the Idle Air Controller motor (IAC).  The ISC is mounted on your throttle body and controls the amount of air that's allowed to enter your intake while your engine is idling.  When the ISC starts to malfunction, it just guesses what your idle should be at.  Sometimes that will cause you to have a very high idle, and sometimes it can cause your engine to stall.  If you have a service manual for your car (available at more auto parts stores), they give a procedure to check your ISC.
Good luck!
