Mitsubishi Repair: Reverse Lights, electrical problems, mitsu eclipse, blown fuse

Question
Would you happen to know around how much it might cost me to get my reverse lights fixed - there's a sensor in the stick shift that when you put it into reverse, the reverse lights are supposed to work.  So that is the part that I need, and well the mechanic said that it will probably cost me a lot....so I'm a little skeptical.  Any help would be great!!  it's a 95 Mitsu Eclipse GS.

Answer
Lauren,
This problem all depends on what's really causing the issue.  I'm not quite sure where the sensor is in your shifter, but it may involve moving the electrical harness from the transmission to gain access to it.  In my experience, I find it always a good idea to get more than one opinion and estimate from different repair shops.  Your problem might just be as simple as a loose connection or blown fuse.

Ask the mechanic exactly what's involved in replacing the sensor and then get a second opinion from another mechanic.  If your mechanic is resistant to tell you, don't bother leaving your car with him.  He's probably just after your money.  It seems like a hassle go from mechanic to mechanic, but you could end up saving hundreds of dollars in labor cost.
Good luck!
