Mitsubishi Repair: 4g63 engine, conicelli mitsubishi, timing belt tensioner

Question
i have a 94 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 dohc nonturbo and the timing belt went and ive decided to replace the engine. i purchased a used engine from an online used parts dealer. i asked for an engine for a 94 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 etc... the engine i recieved was the 4g63 but i believe it was from the earlier model 89-92 but didnt realize until i had to replace the water pump and timing belt tensioner and they didnt fit. do you know what the differences between the 89-92 and 92-94 models of the 4g63 engine?

Answer
Derek,
The two engines have different oil pans, among other changes.

Before the oil pan method was identified, the only way to 'tell' if you had a 7-bolt engine was the production date of the car. According to the staff of Conicelli Mitsubishi, cars produced between March, 1989 and the third week of April, 1992 have 6-bolt motors; May, 1992 to the first week of May, 1994 have 7-bolt motors.

That's the biggest difference I know of, and that may be why your parts didn't fit.  You may want to call up the place you bought your engine from and get some additional information about the particular engine you bought.
Good luck!
