Mitsubishi Repair: 91 plymoth colt (has mitsubishi engine), leaky capacitors, mitsubishi engine

Question
For the last couple of days, when starting car,if I missed first firing, the car acted like it got flooded and I would have to let it sit for a while. On next try it would start. Yesterday, I had turned it off for a minute, and it would not fire off after letting it sit. Tried this several times. Called my brother and he came and we tried a tow start. It seemed like it would try to ffire, but I could not keep it running. So wwe towed it home where I checked for fire by grounding a spark plug-no fire. Changed distributor cap and rotor; still no fire.
Any sugestions?

Answer
Ron,
If you replace the cap and rotor, you still may have a problem with the distributor itself.  That would be a very expensive replacement, but it would be worth testing.

Also, common problem with Mitsubishi-based vehicles is that between 89-94, some under-rated capacitors were used on the ECU (the car's computer).  Those capacitors would eventually leak caustic fluid on the rest of the board of the ECU, and cause serious damage.  The most common result of this problem of leaky capacitors is starting problems; particularly, inability to fire the plugs.  I'd recommend pulling out your ECU and examing it for damage.
Good luck!
