Mitsubishi Repair: My intake manifold on my 2000..., intake manifolds, intake manifold

Question
My intake manifold on my 2000 galant cracked. My dealer says that it happened because of an improperly installed timing belt by a local garage. Is this possible?

Answer
A local garage would REALLY have to screw up to crack an intake manifold because of an improperly.  Because the intake manifold is made of aluminum, it can be cracked easily if the bolts are torqued too tightly.  I can't imagine why an improperly installed timing belt would crack a timing belt.  So, it is possible that it can happen, but very unlikely and uncommon.

Intake manifolds are expensive if you have to buy a new one.  But if you want to save some money, most local mechanics can patch up those cracks with some bonding material.  If you have a set of tools, some ambition, and some JB Weld (available at any auto parts store), you can even patch up the crack yourself.
Good luck!
