Mitsubishi Repair: Idling a little rough and hard to start cold and sometimes warm, intake hoses, auto parts store

Question
Hi i have a 94 mitsu eclipse 2.0 turbo gst 5spd. I have recently had the head reworked and bottom end rebuilt. The throttle body has been cleaned and the iac motor has been replaced. When i removed the old iac motor it was covered in light fresh oil. I also have a hard time starting the car in cold and sometimes warm starts. Any advice would be great. What can I check for?

Answer
Robert,
Verify all intake hoses and pipes are connected properly and are not plugged or leaking.  Oil in the IAC can sometimes indicate a faulty PCV valve.  Be sure your PCV valve is working properly.  If you're not sure, buy a new one.  They're about $10 from any auto parts store, and just a couple bucks more from the dealership.  Also, check your compression in each cylinder just to verify it's within spec.

Another thing to check is your car's computer.  Read this article for further information:

If your ECU is going bad, usually the first clues are hard starts.  Pull your ECU and check the board for damage.
Good luck!
