Mitsubishi Repair: I have a 1994 eclipse gs (2.0..., mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 1994 eclipse gs (2.0 non turbo, auto) and have been experiencing slow throttle response. The car starts fine but as soon as I put it in drive the idle drops (500 rpm) and the car moves very slowly (I have the accelerator to the floor), after 15-20 seconds the idle picks up and away I go, but as soon as I stop at a light, the process starts all over again. I have checked timing belt timing, ignition timing, fuel pump pressure (40 psi @ idle), mass air flow sensor, I have replaced the TPS and had the cat converter checked (good), the spark plugs are good NGK. One thing I did check: I removed the cam sensor and 180'd the cam prongs then re-installed- there was no change. What next? ignition coil? cam sensor? ECM? help please.

Answer
Marlin,
It sounds like your problem is in your transmission.  From your description, I would guess your 4-speed automatic transmission is starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear instead of 1st.  Your torque converter may not be switching gears when your car comes to a stop.  If you take your car to a mechanic and not the dealership, be sure to find a transmission specialty shop.  Your average mechanic may not be experienced enough to work on transmissions.  Find a garage that deals with transmissions only.  They should be able to pin point your problem exactly.
Good luck!
