Mitsubishi Repair: Hesitation, mitsubishi eclipse gs, throttle position sensor

Question
I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS.  Sometimes when I start the car after it is warm it shuts right off sometimes unless I give it gas.   Also sometimes when I am idle it cuts right off.  Also when I am traveling the check engine light comes on for a split second and the car hesitates.  What is the problem.  I performed a full tuneup besides the fuel filter.

Answer
Jerry,
It sounds like you have a failing Idle Air Control (IAC) motor and/or a faulty Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).  If either one are failing, you can experience the problem you are noticing.   A bad TPS can make your check engine light come on, and a bad IAC can cause your car to stall once it warms up.  If you're not sure how to check these items yourself, most any local garage can check them for you.  But if you take your car to a mechanic to check it out, make sure you specify what to have checked.  Otherwise, they will charge you excess labor for checking lots of things that don't need it.
Good luck!
