Question
hello,I have a 1991 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0l engine, manual 5 speed transmission, non turbo. The problem that i'm having is when i make sharp turn the car is hard to steer and the warning lights come on and i also smell a rubber burning smell,i have plenty of fluid in my power steering resevoir, and i replaced the belt just 2 mos ago, also the lights have been going dim lately, the alternator is also brand new, what could be causing this?I notice also that the belt stops turning when i turn the steering wheel, and it makes a squealing noise along with that burning rubber smell,PLEASE HELP.

Answer
Mark,
Your problem could be a stuck pulley on either your power steering pump or your alternator.  Also, if the tensions on your belts is too loose, you will hear a squealing noise.  Plus, if the alternator belt is too loose, your alternator will not be able to power your interior electronics sufficiently and your lights will tend to dim.
Good luck!
