Motorcycle Repair: finding out what is wrong with my motercycle

My 1987 550 yamaha motercycle gose dead when i put it in gear something electical what could it be

There are several safety's on the engine that could be the issue.
1 the Neutral Safety Switch, Second the Kick Stand safty Switch.

If the Kick Stand Switch is not pushed in with the kick stand up.
It will kill the engine. 2 wires going to the switch. Trace them to a connector.
Use an OHM meter and push the switch in and out and see if its working.
