Motorcycle Repair: 1979 CBX lost power

Question
Hi Jan, I started my 79' CBX last night for the first time. Drove 6 miles then approached a stop sign and lost all power.  No starter, no dash lights, no horn. All dead. Bike has 5,100 mi. What do you suggest...where do I start looking for the trouble?
Thanks,  Randy in MN

Answer
Well first check for sudden battery death syndrome, make sure when you have the ignition on, you measure 12V across the battery terminals.  if that is OK, then check the main fuse, which is located in a little black rectangular bakelite box in the red cable coming from the positive battery terminal  Check that you get 12V on both sides of the fuse.  I'm guessing you will find the culprit there...  By your description applying the brake caused the current draw that blew the fuse, so check your brake light bulbs.  If those are OK check the ignition switch.  let me know.
