Motorcycle Repair: 05 Suzuki Hayabusa, hayabusa 1300r, suzuki hayabusa

Question
Have an 05 Hayabusa 1300R that I think has an electrical problem. A couple of months ago while riding it just stalled out and stopped along side the highway. It started maybe twice after that but won't even turn over now. I replaced the battery and got a new rectifier because knew battery was dead. When i press the start button to crank it the headlight go out and dash lights but when turn button loose lights come back on and i can hear clicks from where the 30amp fuses sit at the rear of the bike. I used a volt meter and when bikes off battery has 12+ volts when when try and start it drops down to 7volts or lower. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Gene,

It sounds like your starter may be stuck unless the engine is not able to turn for some reason.
I would try turning the engine by hand to make sure it is not seized.
or put it in gear and rock it forward to see if the engine turns, you can even remove
a spark plug to see if the pistons are moving up and down.

If the engine turns ok try connecting a good battery directly to the starter to see if the starter works or not.

Third, check that power is getting through the starter relay or solenoid on the
two larger wires when you hear the clicking noise.
The relay solenoid is the unit making the clicking sound.

When it clicks the battery power should go from the battery to the starter itself
on the heavier solenoid wires.

If the starter is stuck you will have to rebuild or replace it.
The same if the solenoid relay is not transferring the power to the starter.
