Motorcycle Repair: 1969 Suzuki ts250, suzuki ts250, ridden bikes

Question
So I want to by my first bike, but my dad and I want to buy an old fixer upper and I found this old suzuki ts250. I have ridden bikes with dad before but still want to start on a 250cc to gain experience. So the problem is the bike has no compression and I was wondering how much would it cost to fix with me my dad and my cousin doing all the labor. As well as if originally spending only 400 for the bike is it a good deal

Answer
Naomi, Well, I am not sure that a TS250 is the best place to start into a vintage bike adventure, but you are already there, I guess. "Value" depends on the condition, originality, mileage and overall completness, plus whether it has a title or not.

On the plus side, a 2 stroke can be fairly easy to overhaul, as long as the crankshaft and crankseals are okay. I am a Honda guy, so I don't have any ideas of the availability of parts like gaskets and seals would be. A crankshaft rebuild would really kill your budget, I imagine.

Search for TS250 parts on the web and find some forums to help you in the process of repair and restoration, as well as parts finding.

Good luck with the project. Nice to see the family get into the process to assist and encourage you when things get challenging.

Best wishes,
