Motorcycle Repair: CL 77 [1966], brgs, small pin

Question
The oil slinger shaft has a pin/hole,on this side of the slinger. What is the purpose?  I can't see what it does. Can I run the engine without this small pin in place?  Engine ran without pin and never found it inside the side cover.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Bruce, Its a little out of my expertize but here goes. Some of the newer Honda,s used a oil slinger of different types. Oil is pumped through the shaft and sprays out the hole to oil upper brgs and clutch parts as there is no pin to plug the hole. This may explain why you did'nt find one in the case.
