Question
Bill, I really don't no what has Happen to my 10 year old grandson's atv, it was doing fine, then he started to backup, it made a noise in the rear end, it sounds like it's coming from the rear brake drum housing. But I take it out of reverse to go forward and it locks up and won't move, it sounds like metal against metal. It will move forward a foot or two. I take it out of gear and it will move forward and backwards. He's all upset, no ride time !! What gives? Any Idea? Thanks,

Answer
Buddy, I don't have any hands-on experience with ATVs, really

shows the rear brake assembly, so I was thinking axle bearing or the brake shoes might be wedging against the drum, but when you take it out of gear and it rolls, then the problem has to be further back, seemingly.

Maybe something in the chain case, like the chain coming off or rubbing the case.

Pull the chain case cover and see what might be happening inside. Sounds like a good opportunity to learn something new about taking care of your machinery.
