Motorcycle Repair: honda crf 80 wont idle, honda crf 80, pilot jet

Question
i bought my daughter a used 2008 crf80 it is good condition she rode it about ten times and we stored it for the winter i filled it full of gas and put stabil in it. she rode it twice last summer. the second was on the street where she wipedout trying to make a corner luckily she wasn't going very fast. so we put it up after that. i got it out this summer and it started right up but wouldn't idle. i took the carburetor apart and cleaned it checked the spark plug it was a little black so i scrapped it fairly clean. i tried to adjust the idle screw on side of carb to no prevail. it starts right up and will stay running as long as i give a little throttle but as soon as i let off the throttle it dies? i even rode it around a little but as soon as i let off the throttle it dies. how can i get it running right? is it bad old gas? is it the ignition?

Answer
Heath, You may still have two problems. Drain the gas out and put in fresh gas also put in a fresh spark plug. It should be an NGK brand. Take the plug thats in it and go down one number as it will be hotter. Example B8ES go to a B7ES. Also the carb may be clean but the pilot jet is still plugged. You will need to clean it out with a jet drill cleaner or a wire from a torch tip cleaner. Put it back togethor and set the mix screw at about 1 1/2 turns out fron all the way in to start with, see if this helps.
