Motorcycle Repair: 2010 KTM SX 65, ring groove, black marker

Question
Hello,
My husband wants to change the piston on my son's bike. We cannot find anything about it in the manual. He has done a top end in the past, but not on a KTM. Do you have any tips or suggestions on doing this?
Thanks!

Answer
Diane, They are easy. When you pull it down make sure the piston faces the right direction as there is an arrow on the top that faces forward also make sure the rings face upward with the lettering on the top side. It also helps to take a black marker and mark the piston where the locator pins are at in the ring groove so you know where the ring ends go so they wont move  and get caught in a port and destoy all your hard work. Also make sure whe wrist pin circlips are seated in the piston wristpin hole and grooves and do not reuse the old clips as they may come out and ruin the sidewall.
