Motorcycle Repair: changing fluids in a 2002 heritage classic, heritage classic, drain plugs

Question
Hi Mike, I want to change the fluids in my 2002 heritage but I have never done it before.  I think I know where all the drain plugs are and I have 20w50 Valvoline to put back in. Now I know the primary I fill it up to the bottom of the clutch spring, right? Also the oil is 3.5 qts. right? The tranny I got a 32 oz bottle of trans fluid from Harley Davidson but it should only use 24. Right?  A question is whether I should check all the fluids hot or does it make a difference? Should I be able to see the fluid with it cold and the dipstick out? Also my bike is belt driven so when I change the primary oil is there anything special I should do other than replace all the gasket on the covers?

Answer
Fill the promary to the bottom of the scltch spring. It takes around 3.5 of motor oil, but go by the dipstick after the motor is warm. The tranny take close to 1 quart, but again, go by the dipstick. Check the oil hot, the others are fine checking cold. You dont need to do anything else.
Good luck and happy riidng
Mike
