Question
QUESTION: Had top head work done, new billet aluminum oil pump, bike has new battery, new spark plug wires, new spark plugs is showing
12 volts on meter.
Put bike back together from head work cam back in place with notches lined up gettting voltage has spark will crank but not
starting.  It's almost like gas not getting to spark plugs but
gas is coming out of carb.  Had timing off in the beginning bike
started then but sounded terrible, now timing and cam in place and it trys to start but won't sputter or start up. Have checked all wiring for frays and looks good nothing sitting on wires sounds tight like it should start right up but won't. Have replaced stater years ago.  Can you think of what it might be. Husband going to take cover off timing and see if he can see anything but it went back into place fine. Apreciate any info you might have.
Thanks, Barb

ANSWER: Are you getting spark at the plugs? Did you bleed the lifters?

QUESTION: Yes getting spark at the plugs.  Did not bleed the lifters.  What does that do.
Thanks, Barb

Answer
If you dont bleed the lifters you could hit piston with a valve or the valve might not be closing all the way. Rotate the motor so the front exhaust pushrod is up, valve open. Let it sit like that for around 15 minutes. Do this for each valve.
The other problem sounds like you dont have it timed right. If you have gas blowing out the carb you are off about 90 degrees. I would recheck the cam and make sure the marks for the pinion shaft gear and the mark for the breather valve are correct.
Then recheck the ignition.
