Motorcycle Repair: torque specs, kawasaki ninja, timing gears

Question
QUESTION: Im working on my 1994 Kawasaki ninja 600r. I'm curious on what toque specs are for the bike. I bought a manual and It just seems to be all out of whack. Such as 250lbs torque for the came shaft holders(don't know tech name). So if you can give me any info about any and all torque specs for my bike it'd be much needed.

ANSWER: Jeff, Here's some specs for you. Cam sprocket-11 ft lbs, Valve cover 7 ft lbs, spark plugs 10 ft. lbs, cylinder head 17 ft lbs. Wheel axle nuts front-64 ft lbs and rear is 79 ft lbs. Does any of this help? Gary......

QUESTION: Well how would I time the bike. There are line and everything on the crank and some written on the came timing gears, just don't know how to line all that up

Answer
Jeff,Im not in my shop now but try this. Pull #1 spark plug and pull the cover off the flywheel. Im thinking this unit does not have a timing cover hole. Put a socket on the crank bolt turn it counter clock wise and bring the piston to top dead center. You may have to feel the piston through the spark plug hole. See if a mark on the flywheel lines up with a casting  pointer. Now check the cams. You may have to loosen the tensioner. The cam gears have a small mark usually on the top and some have lines or marks to run parallel to the top of the head. The lobes on the cams should be facing away from the shim buckets over the valve stems. If they arent, loosen the cam holders and lift the cams and tilt the gears down to clear the chain and set them correctly.Reinstall the tensioner and turn over the crank with you socket and see if it rolls easy without a piston striking the valve. Recheck the timing alignment before closing it all up. Oh by the way put the cam holders back on and tighten them before putting the chain tensioner back in.
