Motorcycle Repair: Steering lock mechanism not releasing, road grime, penetrating spray

I own a 2009 Yamahag Virago Vstar 250. The key operares the steering lock barrel correctly, however, when it is in the 'unlocked/released position' - the steering (forks) are still locked. It has been a week since I have used the bike, and this is the first time this has happened. Is there anything I can do?

Weronika, Just about every bike made has this feature but few use it because its a neglected part that gets a lot of water and road grime and make them stick. Try some penetrating spray  lube in the tumbler area and force some up around the locking pin.Insert the key and work it back and forthand see if it frees up.
