Motorcycle Repair: 1981 FLTC, roller bearings, fltc

HI MIKE, 1981 FLTC bad front wheel bearing failure, when taking wheel off all parts came out, have a factory service manual but parts do not match illustration, so my questions are was there a wheel bearing upgrade and the spacer washers fit where and what side,

Answer
There is no upgrade, you should have timkin roller bearings in the wheel. Your speedo drive unit is the spacer for one side of the bike and the spacer goes to the other. The spacers that have a step in them go against the bearing, from the inside. The thin spacers go behind the step spacers to give you .002 end play in the bearing
