Motorcycle Repair: stalling, clutch lever, clutch master

Question
When I start my 1985 Honda shadow 700vt.As soon as I try to put it in gear.IT lunges and dies. Also the bike will not roll in gear with the clutch lever pulled.I have rebuilt the clutch master and slave cyclinders. No improvement clutch feels spongy.

Answer
Hi Mike,
It sounds like the clutch is stuck engaged. You can try starting the bike and get it rolling before putting in gear. Once you are moving in first or second gear pull in the clutch lever and hold it in. Continue to drive slowly and hold the clutch lever in, the clutch should break free and the bike slow to a stop. If it's really frozen it may require dis-assembly and repair.

Terry.
