Motorcycle Repair: CB175 clutch problem, clutch mechanism, burr ridge

Question
I have a 1973 K6 CB175 with 12,500 miles on it. When I try to re-engage the clutch at a stop, the clutch mechanism sometimes sticks. The lever and cable move freely, but the clutch won't engage. If I pull the cover off and tap the mechanism, it will pop into engaged position. It's worse when it warms up and no amount of adjustment or lubrication seems to help.

If I put the bike in neutral and move the lever slowly, the movement is jerky and I can usually get it to stick in the disengaged position. Do you have any idea what what may be wrong or how to fix it.  Other than this sticking the clutch works fine.

Answer
Hi Dick,
It sounds like the mechanism is damaged or has excessive wear somewhere. A service manual would be a great asset in identifying the problem here. You may find a burr, ridge or other mechanical wear that is causing the issue.

Terry.
