Motorcycle Repair: backfire, turning the key, kill switch

i have a 95 ninja zx6e just in the last two days upon turning my key to the on position i get a loud backfire before i even try to start the bike.. the bike starts right up and runs fine but the backfire is very weird any thoughts on this matter..

I don't have much to go on here, I would check the float levels in the carbs, perhaps one is leaking fuel into the intake a bit. It sounds like the ignition is firing one plug when you turn on the key. You could try turning the key with the kill switch off and see if this has any effect when you turn the kill switch off.
