Motorcycle Repair: old panhead, panhead, bearings

Question
I got a 1957 panhead that had not been started the last time was 1996 what do i need to do to see if it would kick over it had compression it was my dads and id luke to run it soon and how do i change the oil and sight unseen what do to think i could get for it? thank you, julius

Answer
A motor sitting that long is not good. You probably have a rust ring in the cylinders and bearings might have gotten rusty. You will need to rebuild the carb and then see if it will start. Once you have it started you can then change the fluids.
Your bike would go for anywhere from 6000 to 20000 depending on condition.
