Motorcycle Repair: 1980 c70 honda passport, chassis grounds, honda passport

Question
I have same issue as another poster did. Short the solenoid and it fires right up. Replaced solenoid still no go but will start if shorted. Cleaned start button contacts, pulled wire and shorted to handle bars, can hear loud click from solenoid, reassembled, push button, same loud click. Brand new fully charged battery in place. I suspect it's in the ignition switch. This sound like good reasoning? Thanks.

Answer
Ricardo, use the wiring diagrams on http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class
C70M should work for you.

Measure the voltage at the solenoid hot wire and through to the starter button switch. Try grounding the starter button contact to the battery ground or frame. Check all your chassis grounds to be sure they are clean and tight. You might have wiring connection issues in the harness or harness connectors. Check the nest of wires in the headlight shell, too.

Did you put in a new solenoid or a used one? Some of them can be disassembled and contacts cleaned internally.
