Motorcycle Repair: 1977 Superglide, intake leak, comign

Question
QUESTION: I bought a 77 Superglide with a S and S Super E carb. It had a intake leak(I did the spray test on the intake with carb cleaner). I bought new o rings to replace the old ones. I have took them on and off 7 times. I put grease on them and I tried a strip of cloth. tape I can't get the leak stopped. If I had the funds I would take it to the shop. Please help.....Thank You

ANSWER: How are you installing them? Are you getting the o-ring in squarely?

QUESTION: The o rings are in place and look as they are in the grooves. I try to hold the intake in place to line up with the heads to try to get a good seal. I have even had a friend to hold it while I put the clamps on it and it still leaked.

Answer
First, I would get some split clamps to hold the intake. they hold alot better then the stock ones. You can check v-twin catolog online to see a pic of what I am refering to. Its part number 35-0406. When you install the o-rings rull them up on the intake past the groove, hold the intake inline with the heads and then pop the o-ring in the groove on one side and install the clamp. slightly tighten so the intake stays there and then do the other side. Look inside the intake and you shouldnt see any o-ring sticking out or any light comign through
Good luck and happy riding
