Motorcycle Repair: suspension problem, honda bikes, oil viscosity

Question
I have a problem with a 900 kawasaki classic cruiser style bike.  After riding Honda bikes for decades and never having a problem with comfortable rides this 2007 Kawasaki has me stumped.  The single shock system gives such a harsh ride when hitting a rough road or pothole it actually has hurt my back.  The honda I had last with air shocks was a dream compared to this.  Question to you....change to an air shock on this bike at great expense or go back to hondas.  Love the bike other then this....Thank you

Answer
Adrian,There are options available. The shocks that come on these factory units are kind of generic and not really set for a specific weight. Some will opt for a rebuilding of the stock unit with the correct spring and oil viscosity and revalve them. Some will replace the shock unit with an aftermarket one thats set for your weight and riding style. But be prepared to spend some bucks upwards of $500.00.
