Motorcycle Repair: 1983 sportster charging problems, ac volts, electronic regulator

Question
how do you test electronic regulator ?

Answer
There is no test for the regulator. What you need to do is testthe stator. Do a OHMs test on the stator plug. Wire to wire there should be OHMs. One wire to ground zero OHMs. Check both wires that way. Then start the bike and at the stator plug you should have around 60 AC volts. If the stator passes the above tests then the regulator is bad. If it doesnt, then the stator is bad. You can also have the stator go out and burn out the regulator, so both can be bad
Good luck and happy riding
